Being one gives me the chance to outline all of the issues I believe there is with the service I provide, but also shedding a light on it so you can make a more informed decision for your health and fitness needs!

One of the most significant challenges of home workouts is the lack of specialised equipment...

You are getting a trainer to meet you at your desired location, the biggest downfall is that they can not bring with them an entire commercial gym :(

When you visit a gym, you have access to various machines and tools that aid your fitness journey. But at home, you might be limited to a set of dumbbells and resistance bands. How can a mobile personal trainer work around this limitation?

The short answer is they can not... However teaching you how to modify your environment for success means that even when they are not there you will know how to exercise. The downfall with the gym is you will still have to travel to that location requiring stronger internal motivation/discipline.

Limited Space

Home spaces vary in size, and not everyone has a dedicated workout room/space. If you are coming to get a mobile personal trainer I will make an assumption that one of your main priorities when it came to organising your home was not setting aside an entire room to be saved for a gym...

You might find yourself exercising in your living room or bedroom, where space is limited. This lack of space can hinder your ability to perform certain exercises. If you live in an apartment building, noise can be an issue too limiting yourself to lack of jumping, running and loud workout music...

However you can change this up by moving your sessions to the great outdoors and modifying the environment there too! Always a workaround when it comes to mobile PT.


Your home is a place filled with distractions – the TV, kids, chores, and that comfy couch. Staying focused on your workout can be challenging when there are so many things vying for your attention.

When a PT enters you are focused on that one person who will be instructing your workout. But once they leave you are stuck having to create your own motivation to do the work they may prescribe you... This is where distractions will play a part.

The benefit of the gym is that once you enter that space is reserved for training so you can not really get out of it. However once you create a strong enough reason why, use the teachings from your mobile personal trainer and modify your environment for success you will notice a shift in your mindset towards distractions which you can not get anywhere else.

Motivation and Accountability

Self-discipline and motivation play a crucial role in home workouts. Without the gym environment and fellow exercisers, it's easy to lose the motivation to work out regularly... Additionally, there might be a lack of accountability, making it easier to skip sessions...

You can lead a horse to water but you can not make it drink. Creating this environment is 1 thing getting you to stick to it outside of hours is another. Mobile trainers usually do check ins outside of their normal session times to ensure the work they give you is being completed. After that you are on your own hence making this a drawback when it comes to mobile personal training..

One thing I know about mobile personal trainers especially those that I coach is that over time they start learning how to adapt to new environments.

If your job relied on you being adaptive, meeting new people in new locations you eventually gain a new found skill. I have been told multiple times that I can adapt a session with as little as a cardboard box. This did not happen over night but over the many years I have been a trainer for!

Driving to and from your home or location near by means the trainer will find it difficult to carry extensive levels of equipment. Coming to a session with a pair of dumbbells or bands might be all the equipment they have. But they can make a session tough if they want to!!

Definitely would not go to one if you have some form of powerlifting goal...

Creative Space Utilisation

To tackle the issue of limited space, get creative. Move furniture aside, use outdoor areas, or transform unused corners into your workout zone. Your mobile personal trainer can help you make the most of your available space.

My favourite way to tackle this is to section off areas of your home for specific tasks. Have an area for leasure, area for eating/dining, area for family time and also a workout area. This area will become the place you always go to when you are ready to workout.

Doing this sends you cues and gives you that internal motivation necessary to make that shift towards making health and fitness apart of your life!

Setting Realistic Goals

It's essential to set realistic goals and expectations. Understand that home workouts might differ from gym sessions but can be equally effective with the right approach. Your trainer will guide you in creating achievable fitness milestones!

One thing I teach and promote is the use of accountability and progress trackers. When you are in the mobile space you have limitations when it comes to tracking progress which is where having a coach becomes an asset in your health and fitness journey.

Having your health and fitness life tracked is going to make a difference when it comes to getting you from point A to B.

Make sure the targets you set for yourself are realistic but also measurable in the mobile space. If your goal is 100kg on a deadlift make sure you have weights that go up to that level for this to be tracked.. Makes sense?

Staying Motivated

Staying motivated at home requires discipline and a structured routine. Your trainer can provide a well-structured workout plan and help you track your progress.

This is why my non-negotiables when taking on a new client is setting up a successful environment. Having an environment set up in a way that makes everything that you do everyday flow well will ensure you are achieving and ticking off all the habits you say you want in your life.

Want to sleep early? my top tip is to make sure your bedroom is reserved only for sleep. Over time your brain will register that space as sleep time and as a result when you arrive in their you will only think of and fall a sleep!

Evaluating Reviews and Credentials

I mean this is pretty stock standard in my opinion. When you go out to dinner do you not check out that restaurants review page before making a reservation...??

Why would this differ from when you are meeting a personal trainer? I believe it is more important to find out what kind of feedback they are receiving from their current and past clients. This would give you a little insight into the type of person they are on top of how good of a trainer they are.
